Agricultural Ventures That Shape My Farm and My Mission

Farming is more than putting seeds in the ground. It’s a system of ventures that work together to build soil health, generate revenue, strengthen local food systems, and leave the land better than we found it. On my farm, every venture has a purpose. Some drive income. Some improve stewardship. Some push innovation. All of them help build a legacy rooted in agriculture, discipline, and impact.

Here are the core agricultural ventures I’m developing and expanding to build a resilient, profitable, and future-focused farm operation.

Agricultural Ventures That Shape My Farm and My Mission

1. Livestock Development and Genetics

One of the main pillars of my operation is livestock. Cattle genetics in particular play a major role in the long-term vision for FMR Genetics. I focus on:

• Building a small but high-quality seedstock herd• Improving genetics through selective breeding• Using AI and future IVF services to enhance production• Producing cattle that are hardy, efficient, and profitable for commercial buyers

This venture strengthens my foundation because livestock is not only income but also an asset that appreciates over time.

2. Timber and Land Stewardship Projects

Healthy land is the backbone of any agricultural business. Timber and land-improvement projects help me increase long-term value while keeping the farm ecologically balanced. These projects include:

• Clearing and maintaining wooded areas for future grazing• Rotational timber harvesting• Soil health improvements• Water and grazing system upgrades

These improvements make the acres more productive and support additional revenue streams.

3. Microgreens and Specialty Crop Production

Microgreens allow me to generate fast cash flow while keeping overhead low. This venture is ideal for new or small farms looking to diversify. I focus on:

• High-demand varieties for local restaurants and markets• Consistent weekly harvest cycles• Direct-to-consumer and wholesale opportunities

It’s a great model for building predictable income while developing other long-term ventures.

4. Consulting, Mentorship, and Education

Norma’s Basket is not just a business. It’s a service rooted in helping people step into agriculture with clarity and confidence. As part of my farm system, consulting includes:

• Grant writing and USDA funding support• Farm business planning and start-up guidance• Livestock and crop production mentorship• Online courses, webinars, and downloadable tools

Sharing knowledge is part of how I improve land and mold people at the same time.

5. Direct-to-Consumer Sales and Local Food Access

Building direct relationships with consumers creates a stronger local market and keeps more money in rural communities. My ventures include:

• Freezer beef (expanding)• CSA partnerships• Farm-to-table sales• Value-added agriculture opportunities

These models help consumers get fresher food while allowing farmers to capture more profit.

6. Land Acquisition and Development

Land is legacy. Every acre is a step toward building generational wealth and creating opportunities for future agricultural projects. My land development ventures include:

• Owner-financed land acquisition• Developing infrastructure for livestock and future buildings• Long-term planning for a fully operational cattle genetics facility

This is the foundation for everything that will grow in the years to come.

Final Thoughts

Agriculture is not one venture. It’s a system. A network of projects, decisions, and disciplines that come together to create opportunity. My farm reflects that truth. Every day, I’m building something bigger than myself. Something that serves the land, the community, and the next generation.

Farming is purpose. Farming is legacy. Farming is impact.

If you're ready to start your own venture or expand the one you have, I’m here to help you take the next step.
